Job Market Outlook for Veterinarians
Last month I wrote about the ongoing national shortage of veterinarians and how to keep your clinic running while understaffed. This week, I’d like to look further at the job market outlook for veterinarians.
A recent article by U.S. News and World Report scores the veterinary profession at a 7.5 /10, ranking it the #5 in Best Health Care Jobs and #12 in the overall 100 Best Jobs. The unemployment rate for veterinarians stands at about 0.3 percent, and the median annual salary for doctors is about $100,000.
The article also includes a projection from The Bureau of Labor Statistics of a 19.4 percent employment growth for veterinarians between 2021 and 2031. That’s an additional 16,800 job openings in the industry. With a shortage now of about 5,000 doctors and the limited number students enrolled in veterinary schools, clinic owners may be wondering who will fill those open positions.
That’s where DVM Consulting and Recruiting Services can help.
