What Stands in the Way of Offer Success: The Hiring Speed and Sourcing Survey Speaks
Over the past month, we have shared results of Veterinary Hiring Speed & Sourcing Survey conducted by DVM Recruiting and Consulting. We have discussed the needs and desires of owners for their hiring positions, the success they have experienced to date and the methods used to find and hire. The final installment of our feature articles on the study results discusses offer success. Clinics have put in the work, found candidates and submitted offers. Did they hire? What increased chances of veterinary placement?
Owners indicated they have indeed made offers to veterinary candidates. Almost 65% of the time, owners have made at least one offer. Of that 65%, 38% of practices offered to one candidate, 15% offered to two candidates and 11% offered to three or more candidates. The remaining clinics never reach the offer stage.
With offers submitted, often multiple offers, why are clinics being denied? Over 40% of respondents indicated they lost offers to their competitors. Location, compensation and culture fit had offers declined at 38%, 23% and 18% respectively.
Top Reason for Declined Offers (multi-select)

Overwhelmingly, owners indicated they were unable to hire due to an insufficient candidate pool, with 74% listing this as one of the reasons their jobs remained unfilled. Location was cited 31% of the time as a factor in unfilled roles, followed by compensation and an offer being declined, both 18%. “Other factors” were cited by 10% as a reason positions remain open.

Over the next several weeks, we’ll begin to analyze the data for you and provide articles that should help to move your clinic forward in the search for new veterinarians. Is there a piece of data that you would like to see further information on or tips on combatting and / or implementing? Please send me a note and I will be glad to expand further on your request!
