Tuskegee University College of Veterinary Medicine – Student Meeting

We are excited about a new initiative we have kicked off on behalf of our private practice clients. We spoke with students at Tuskegee University College of Veterinary Medicine on August 29th. I’d like to share the highlights of that visit, and why it could be a game changer for your practice.

In an open forum we spoke with more than 70 students ranging from first year to fourth year who were interested in learning more about private practice. Our conversation lasted for about an hour, and during that time, there was an exchange between our DVMRS university liaison and the future veterinarians with questions and answers from both sides. Here are some key takeaways:

  • Students were interested in learning about the culture of private practice, including how doctors interact with clients and the community.
  • Students asked about non-competes.
  • Students were interested in how a new or recent graduate can purchase or start a private practice.
  • Underclassmen are looking for externships to get more exposure to private practices.

These students have been added to our contact lists and are eager to start receiving our monthly list of job openings and externship opportunities.

This is the first of many scheduled visits with veterinary schools across the country.

Our main motivation for meeting veterinary students where they are in their current journey is to get exposure for our clients. Because let’s face it, it’s been hard to get a foot in the door at veterinary schools if you aren’t part of the big corporate clinics. By having face-to-face interactions, we are letting future doctors know there is more to explore when it comes to finding the right place to start their career – and that could be at your practice.

DVMRS has been in the recruiting business for more than 30 years, and since 2020, we have submitted over 600 veterinarians to over 240 privately owned clinics. We understand the special requirements of finding the right doctor for private practices, and our team has consistently put our method to work for our clients, resulting in an 88 percent success rate in presenting quality candidates within the first 90 days of the recruitment process. Allow me the chance to explain how we can find the right match for you and your team.
